Our Rubber Paving is recycled tire crumb and urethane mixed together and is applied to create a flat. flexible, durable and aesthetically pleasing surface with its many colour adaptations. The rubber crumb is created by grinding up old tires plus removing all the tire lining and cables. Edmonton has one of the best, most effective plants for creating consistent quality rubber crumb. Since tires are flexible in nature and urethane is a scientifically made to remain flexible for ever, the combination of the crumb and urethane create a product, Rubber Paving, which is very flexible while being very durable. A perfect product for our Alberta climate of continual freeze/thaw cycles.
Dura-Grip Rubber Paving
Replacing Concrete
Warranty
01.
5 year warranty on cracking
02.
No warranty with new concrete.
Cracking or chipping
01.
Not under regular use.
02.
May crack anywhere, even with cut lines.
Repairs
01.
Easy to repair if required. Colour can be matched and urethane re-applied.
02.
Repairs are extensive and unsightly.
Environmental Impact
01.
Environment friendly due to keeping many tires and old concrete out of landfills.
02.
Old concrete contains rebar so it is harder to recycle.
Disruptions fixing concrete
01.
Applying rubber paving is a fast process, usually 1 day of application and 3 days of cure before driving on. Minimal disruption to landscaping
02.
Concrete replacement requires heavy equipment to break up the old concrete and haul it away. New concrete installation requires 30 days of cure before driving on.
Decorative
01.
Rubber paving can be applied over the driveway and walkways as well as the steps, tying in the look the whole home.
02.
Concrete replacement is usually over a specific area, leaving the remaining concrete walkways or steps, in the same aged condition.
Water run-off
01.
Water that flows off is reduced to 60% thereby decreasing burden on sewer systems. Rest is dissipated into the ground evenly through the rubber paving.
02.
Water flows on concrete into the sewer systems or through cracks which wash away the underlying substrate or cause freeze/thaw expansion issues.
Freeze/thaw
01.
Rubber is flexible and works with the freeze/thaw cycles, flexing and retracting when needed.
02.
Concrete is rigid and can be affected by freeze/thaw cycles, causing cracks or heaves or flaking.
Ice build-up
01.
Snow and ice cannot stick to rubber or urethane, therefore come off easy. Any ice buildup breaks up due to flexibility of rubber.
02.
Water, snow and ice get absorbed by and stick to the concrete, which makes it hard to remove. Chipping or salt is necessary to remove ice, damaging the concrete surface.
Slips and falls
01.
Slip-resistance at all times due to rubber flexing and its texture.
02.
Concrete absorbs water and when it freezes the surface becomes slippery.
Snow Removal
01.
The surface is textured but flat, so is easy to shovel, especially since the snow does not stick. A leaf blower works effectively.
02.
Since the snow is absorbed into the concrete, it is harder to remove. Any compaction actually sticks to concrete.
Frost heaves
01.
The rubber paving allows the water to dissipate evenly into the ground, thereby minimizing any heaving. Minor heaving is absorbed by the flexibility of the rubber surface.
02.
Concrete being solid and rigid creates pooling of water beneath and the resultant heaves create the cracks and unevenness.
Safety features
01.
Recycled tire crumb as rubber paving is safe for children to play on and slip-resistant to walk on.
02.
Concrete is a rigid hard surface but can get slippery with water and have uneven heaves when cracked.
Cost
01.
Rubber paving is great economical and affordable alternative to replacing concrete, is very durable, plus it has the added benefits listed above
02.
To replace concrete you must first break the old existing concrete apart and all away and dump. Then replace with new concrete, which may have the same issues above.
The benefits of Resurfacing with Dura-Grip Rubber Paving are extensive. Although concrete is a rigid strong surface that may last many decades, it does show wear & tear and the effects of the elements. Concrete repairs are hard to perform and are usually unsightly, even when performed properly. Our Rubber Paving is very durable, works with the elements and if necessary is easy to repair, plus if required or simply wanted, can be touched up by applying a surface coat of urethane to create new life. Keeping the old substrate of solid concrete and resurfacing with rubber paving is the ultimate alternative. The application is cost effective, less intrusive, durable, aesthetically pleasing and creates a safer surface. Note: We do not offer concrete replacement as one of our services.
